I’m not giving out or selling anything from the Scooby Doo Party because of the image copyrights.
The images I used were from an artist that copied the originals, but they’re obviously almost spot on copies.
I would be devastated if I caused myself or my blog any troubles over a Mystery Van and A Dog. {darn pesky kids!

Hello! I’m back. Well, sort of. My giant weeks of preparation have come, and gone, and both of the projects were completed. Of course, the perfectionist in me, could tell you 100 things I wish went differently. But one good thing about things with a deadline, is that they pass….and then it’s over….and there’s not a lot you can do about it.
We’ll start with a party post. Who doesn’t love a party? Well, sometimes I don’t. If it comes with a silly theme.
One of the bad things about your kids getting older, is that they get ideas in their heads that are hard to change. My son decided that he wanted a Scooby Doo party. And I couldn’t convince him otherwise.
Why was I adverse to the kids and their Mystery Van? Well…it’s just so hard to do character parties that don’t look like they came straight out of a bag.
Here’s my attempt
At a Scooby Doo Party!
- One of the best ways to take your party “out of the bag” is to dissect the color palette.
- We went with the “Mystery Van” colors of: Aqua, Tangerine, and Lime.
- I designed the invitation to show both the theme and the color palette. (And I gotta say….I kinda loved how they turned out….)

I got them printed out at Costco….and I’m IN LOVE with the results. They were really cheap, and the quality is awesome. If I had any reason to….I could probably frame them. I will be keeping this option in mind for art in the future! LOVE IT!

Back in April….we had a birthday party for my daughter. That time, I went for the standard “Martha Stewart” tissue poms over the stairway. My son requested that there not be too many “fluffy things”. So we came up with these funky 60′s type flowers to hang over the banister. I love how they fill in the space, and keep the color theme going….for very little money. I just made one template, and cut them out of 12×12 scrapbook paper. They’re hung by 1/8″ grosgrain ribbon.

Because of the 90+ degree temperatures, we had to keep some things inside. I love the paper lanterns hanging over the table.

My son is actually NOT a big fan of cake. I know! Weird. For his actual birthday day (which was a couple days earlier….) he requested a cheesecake. And for his birthday party, we did funky sugar cookies. They seemed to be a big hit with the kids. And they actually were fairly quick for me. (and I was given a recipe for Buttercream that I LOVE!!!! Thanks April!) Maybe I’ll share a couple sugar cookie tips in the future.

Outside, we had places for each child to sit. I wasn’t a fan of the Scooby Doo place settings that we found. We decided to buy plates (these are UBER cheap Dixie plates) that matched our colors. Then we printed out some cute graphics and cut them with a 2 3/4″ punch. I printed them on sticker paper. So all I had to do was peel and stick. Easy. We did the same with the cups. (those cups were 4 for $1.50 and each child got to take theirs home.)

The food was all picked by my 8 year old. So if it sounds kind of ecclectic….let’s blame him. Deal? He picked pizza, grapes, carrots with dip, and soda. I told him no at first….’cause it’s a weird combination. But then I realized that all those foods are the perfect colors. So I changed my mind. We also had lots of treats that were the right colors. I had lots of fun naming all our foods:
- Scooby Straws
- Daphne Dip
- Pesky Carrots
- Ghosty Grapes
- Mystery ‘Mallows
- Goblin Gummies
- Velma Gum
We had our lunch, and then the kids came in to watch a Scooby movie for a minute. Then I told them it was time to open presents. (which were outside) When we went out, we found that THE PRESENTS WERE ALL GONE!
We were left with a clue. The kids had to play games, and solve puzzles to get all the clues, and then solve the mystery as to where the presents had been taken.
Thank goodness they were all found in the trunk of our car.

Each child went home with an extra cookie, their cup, a bag full of candy from the “candy store”, and a “doggie bag”. The bag contained some Scooby Snacks, some Scooby fruit snacks, and a Scooby Doo washcloth.
Hopefully it was all a success.
It might not have been.
But it would have been…..if it wasn’t for those darn pesky kids…..

Linked To:

it all looks great! My pesky kids would love it (they are into Scooby Doo too)!
I really like the color combo – good thing that groovy van is so darn cool!
Well done! It turned out super cute! Now I'm patiently waiting for pictures of the bedroom redo. I can't wait to hear how he reacted!
What a fun party!! I love it. You are incredibly clever, girl! Your posters are adorable!!

Wow! You are AWESOME! That sounds like a fabulous party! Great job! : )
This is SUCH a creative and cute idea! You really pulled out all the stops! Can I pay you to do my daughters bday party in November? I'm already stressing! Augh!
How super cute is that!? Love the cute stuff you made and especially the "mystery of the missing presents", what a fun and memorable party for him and his friends.
I'm super jealous of those posters!!
Absolutely adorable! Love the groovy hanging flowers. But I guess I am impartial, since lime green, orange, and aqua is the color palette of my living room.
Looks like a great party!
What a cute party! I bet they had a blast!

I think it was a complete success. Lucas came home and told me all about how fun it was. He thought it was so cool that all the candy matched the scooby-doo stuff and it all had scooby-doo names!! (very creative)
That is so impressively creative! I am already designing "inspired by" posters like that (in my head at least) with a Sheriff Woody theme for my son's party. If you don't mind saying, what size are those and did you get them printed as photo posters? I so love your blog; always funny and fresh.
Kim & Gen:
Woody ones would be DARLING!! Good idea.
The posters are 16×20…so actually not that big. (the budget was getting a little thin) I printed them as posters at Costco. (1 hour printing….dynamite!) They also offer one size bigger as well.
A lot of online places will print them too. I found that between shipping costs and taxes….my local Costco was the most economical.
Hope that helps!
Can I be your kid when I grow up? This party is absolutely terrific!! Color me impressed! I have to say I seriously coveting those posters.
I love this party! You did a great job of making a character party look nothing like one that came out of a box! Where did you get the Scooby Doo graphics for your posters, etc.? This is really my kind of party–an adventure on top of all of the cuteness! And I totally think the retro vibe and color scheme was the perfect way to go with the decor!
Who would have thought a scooby doo party could be so girly, and cute. I love it. Thanks for sharing. I love that you went all out, without going all out, if you know what I mean. You stayed in a budget, and got crafty instead, my thing for sure. Also those cookies look very cool, I love the way everything turned out.
You did a great job–loving all the details! I need to keep those funky hanging flowers in mind. My son's 9th birthday is in November (yes, I'm already thinking about it!) and I don't want to use fluffy pom poms. Thanks for sharing!
OMG! Your kids are so lucky…that party looks incredible. I can't ever have kids solely because they would be deprived of creative parties like this
You should definitely frame those posters. They are way cool! And I love the invitation.
What a cool party. I love the flowers that you made (not poofy at all). The colors look amazing. I can't believe the posters. They look wonderful. Great job! Linked over from sunday showcase
SO creative! The mystery game is a geat idea.

What a cute party!!!! The theme is adorable and the colors are great!

Very clever party – I love the posters, 60's flowers even the touch of orange ribbon on the bags. The kids must have had so much fun looking for the presents.

So cute! I am just a deadbeat mom I guess. I don't do anything cute like this for my kids birthday's. Maybe I should try & make their days more special.
Any chance you'd offer up a tutorial for the posters? I'd love to know how you did it!
Adorable party!!
Well done! Love it!
uh-mazing! that's all I can say!
We did a Scooby party two years ago and my kids love Scooby so much, we're probably going to end up doing another one at some point. I love your decor ideas!
Funny, we are watching Scooby Doo as I was reading your post. Your party is FABULOUS. I LOVE the posters and the mystery of the missing presents is a FANTASTIC idea. Thanks for sharing. Big Hugs From Texas, Tara
So glad you linked this one up to the party party! I was hoping you would! Good luck!

Have a great day!
Love, love, LOVE your party! How fun. You have such lucky kids.
And the posters! Wow. My son is excited to have his Scooby Doo party this week. Do you share graphics? If so, would you be willing to email me the graphics for the posters? I'd love to have those beauties printed for him.
If so, my email is kaseyboone(at)hotmail
I found your pictures on pinterest…looking for scooby doo b-day party ideas! I LOVE how you choose the color scheme. Would you mind sharing your poster graphics…they are awesome and would be a perfect addition to my 5 yr. olds party at the end of July!
Thanks…sierradfoster (at) yahoo (dot) com
Oh so wonderful! My son is dead set on a Scooby Doo party and I was less than thrilled but after seeing what you did I am actually getting really excited about it!
Is there any way you would be willing to share your graphics? I love everything!
Oddly enough my DAUGHTER is begging for a SD Birthday Party because she and her Daddy watch an episode weekly. I was really dreading it until I ran across your blog! Do you have an ETSY store? I would love to purchase those poster graphics from you!!!
I LOVE all of this! I am planning a Scooby birthday party for my three year old and this is perfect! I have a question – Did you make or buy the labels for your “candy store?”
I made them in Photoshop.
Would you be willing to sell me a copy of the template of the flowers?
I wish I had one, Nicole. I’d just give it to you. I actually just traced around a wooden flower cutout that we have hanging in my daughter’s bedroom. The store I bought it at, has gone out of business. I’m sorry!
Oh, no worries. I’m sure I can find something online. Thanks for the response!!
Ellie G,
Do you still have the clues that you used for the scavenger hunt? If so, could I use them for my son’s Scooby Doo party? Thanks!!
I don’t. I’ve been asked for them before, but I never saved them.
I really should have. So sorry!
I keep coming back here! This is an amazing execution of a Birthday Party. I have two 6 year olds and a 4 year old and each of them have asked for a scooby birthday, well really the twins asked for scooby my 4 year old wants a Velma only party.
They are all girls and I love how this shows how you can personalize it. Is there any chance you have the invitations and posters saved? It would save me a massive amount of work for two parties! We just moved and I am not sure I can whip this up on my own in time and it not be a “store bought job.”
IF you share you can email me anytime at dennisandsheryl@yahoo.ca Thanks! and thank you for the fabulous inspiration!
LOVE your blog 1st off! Love the decorations and food you did for the SD party! I am doing a Scooby Doo party for my daughters 4th birthday in March and I was wondering if you by any chance had the 16×20 poster files that you designed? I am getting down to the wire and don’t have the expertise or time to make my own in photoshop.
Thank you so much for you time I really appreciate it!
Hello,
WOW what an inspiration your scooby doo party is
I AM LOVING your posters & doggie bags
hehe.
I’m just wondering if you have any files for sale for them? My sons party is in May & we have barely any party goodies in a scooby doo theme here in Australia… Doesn’t help that I am going for a boutique party set up
Any help would be greatly appreciated
xo
Love the posters! Do you sell them or the files to print them?? Please let me know if you do! My little girl has a Scooby Doo party coming up and these are perfect.
I am loving the invitations and posters. Do u have them for sale? They are the best ones I have seen yet!
Hi,
I LOVE this!! Such great ideas and not at all run of the mill scooby tat that you get at the party stores. My son wants a scooby party for his 5th next month. I too was wondering if you might be willing to share/sell your posters. Also could you tell me where you bought your invotes, they are great.
Thanks,
Lisa
I also would love to know if you sell the pdf for the posters and invites??

I love this party! I have been looking online for ideas for my son’s upcoming birthday. I just can’t bring myself to buy the “out of the box” stuff either. I know you aren’t giving out any links, etc for the party-but I was wondering if I could ask just one thing. I absolutely LOVE the posters! I was just wondering what program you used to make them? Photoshop? Thanks!
Hello… Love you Blogger and so inspired by your party. I am doing one for my 4 year old and love your posters. Would you be willing to sell or email me them so I could go print them
thanks so much!!
