A Spring Project with Canvas Corp

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer

So I guess it’s about time for me to begin my journey toward Spring.  I LOVE spring.  Mostly because my heart knows that it’s leading me to summer.  And that is my SEASON!

A few weeks ago I got some amazing samples from the amazing Canvas Corp to try my hand at.  And I gotta admit, I’ve been stewing and stewing about what to do with them.  Especially focusing on doing them justice.  Because they are FANTASTIC!

But it’s my cute Mommy’s birthday coming up in a week, and I think this is gonna be a super gift!

I started with a 12×12 Canvas Corp. canvas in the natural color. I gotta admit that this is my first meeting with the “natural” color.
Our first “date” if you will. Let’s just say that I’ll be callin’ you for a 2nd date, Natural.
I liked you A-LOT!

You’re going to need a solid surface up inside the canvas to iron on. I can usually find a book that does the trick. This one fit perfect.
It won’t damage the book.
Promise.

I’m kind of a HUGE FAN of freezer paper stenciling!  Duh!  Sorry if you’re sick of this lil’ technique…but I swear It’s the MOST FUN way to put words and pictures on almost anything.

There’s some pretty good instructions about using freezer paper HERE.   Essentially, it’s got a waxy side that you can iron onto fabric for a tight “seal”.  Then you can paint over it and use it like a stencil.

I usually cut out my words/pattern/pictures with my Silhouette, Miss Scarlett.  But you can also do it with an exacto knife.  And really simple patterns/pictures can be cut with regular scissors.

I also used my cutter and a design program to design and then cut out a SUPER swirly tree from this FANTASTIC polka dot paper from Canvas Corp.
Brown and cream polka dots?
Yes please!

I covered all of it with a coat of my BFF….the Mod Podge, to seal down the paper and give the paint an extra layer of protection.

  • Then I found an awesome little scrap of pink material and sewed a running stitch down the side of a strip about 2 inches wide.

  • I rolled that fabric into tiny buds and just hand sewed the buds together so they wouldn’t unravel.

  • Then I hot glued them to my spring-ee tree.  So that it would look like it is blossoming into spring.

I love the 3-D look of the art. And the way that the paper, canvas and material all have different tactile aspects. I kind of adore 3-D art that makes you want to reach out and touch it!!

In fact, you might have to put up a “do not touch the art” sign next to your new masterpiece. Just because it’s so stinkin’ tempting!

Welcome Spring!
Sooner than later…yes?
I’m about done with this chilly weather!

And happy birthday to my Mommy.  Who is actually receiving this gift in the morning, so I’m pretty sure I haven’t spoiled anything.  Especially since it’s almost 1AM.  Pretty sure she’s sleeping.  She better be!

And don’t forget about the FABULOUS contest from Canvas Corp. & Jenn at Redberry Barn!

It’s such a super fun contest…you make a banner….you submit it to the contest….and you could WIN THIS….

A PRIZE PACKAGE {WORTH OVER $100} FILLED WITH CANVAS CORP. PRODUCTS!

Really, get in an entry!  This prize package is SOOOOO worth it!  I really, really love these products!

There’s just a few rules to playing along, so hop over HERE to get the details, and you could be on your way to re-stocking your craft room with some awesome free stuff!!  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I LOVE IT. it had never occurred to me to use freezer paper with canvas. I was thinking it would be awesome to grab a bunch of mini canvases and get some fun stuff going but this definitely seals the deal, as it would be a lot quicker and faster and most awesome overall to freezer paper stencil than straightup paint.

There are two things you should know.
    1) I have adopted you, as of now. Don't question it, I don't appreciate being talked back to young lady.
    2) My birthday is October 4th.

I actually drew it myself in Illustrator. And unfortunately, with a recent hard drive crash, I no longer have it. I’m so sorry. I bet you could find something similar though.
