Welcome to 2012 Less Cake {more frosting} readers!
Are you ready for a new year? I kind of am. Weird. I don’t like time marching on, per-se. But I’m really excited about the possibilities for this year.
And I’m SUPER excited to introduce the very first “guest series” that I’ve ever had on LCMF. (it’s kind of daunting to ask your bloggie idols to “help you out”. I had to take a deep breath.)
Last year I decided to forgo traditional New Years resolutions and choose a “Word” for the year. Just one word that I would think about in my life for a whole year.
The word for 2011 was BREATHE.
I think having “BREATHE” as my 2011 word was perfection.
And I did learn to breathe.
I learned to chill.
I learned to step-back and have a real heart-to-heart with myself about what was truly necessary and important. And what was just show so that people would think I have it all together. Which I DO NOT!
And I also learned that effective “breathing” for me….comes with additional meds.
Just sayin’. I’m not ashamed.
I breathe best when not suffering from massive anxiety. ‘Nuff said.
This year I’ve been thinking for months about what could replace the most perfect word for me. “Breathe” was just so “me”.
I’ve come up with it.
2012′s word is:
REFINE
Re-fine: To improve or perfect by polishing.
(this is the definition that I love)
I feel like I didn’t want “define”. I’ve spent lots of time on defining who I want to be.
I will still need to practice “breathe” but I’m doing lots better on that.
I just need to take the things I’ve worked so hard on in the last 3 years and “REFINE”.
I can’t have 10,000 hobbies and do them all perfectly. I can’t have kids in 10,000 activities and still have them feel stress-free. I can’t have an awesome marriage when I never see my husband. I can’t have a clean home when I spend all my free time on my blog.
I think I just need to “REFINE” all the GOOD things I want to do. And take the GREAT ones.
There’s lots of awesome “apps” for life. But my “iPhone of life” only has 16 Gig in its memory. When that sucker is full…something’s gotta give.
I’m gonna focus on this awesome quote from Dallin H. Oaks:
“We should begin by recognizing the reality that just because something is good is not a sufficient reason for doing it. The number of good things we can do far exceeds the time available to accomplish them. Some things are better than good, and these are the things that should command priority attention in our lives.”
Yep. I gotta refine all the good stuff. And pick the BEST!
I’m so excited about this concept that I’ve lined up some of my favorite bloggers to share their
“One Word, One Goal for 2012″
So get ready to see what some of the women that I most admire in this world….are gonna do with their brand new year. I’m starting to receive some of their entries, and I’m so inspired! You will be too.
Stay tuned, the next 2 weeks as we start off this brand New Year.
And not with things that we’ll end up forgetting.
But real things.
That you can really accomplish.
And I promise you’ll feel amazingly inspired by it!

Great post by an amazing lady! What a great 2011 you had. I had a front row seat to your “Breathing” in 2011 and can say it has been quite a success. I am excited about this years word and I would like to add one for myself, RESPONSIBILITY. I plan to take more responsibility this year for everything I do, including situation I may not think I have control of.
Great post can’t wait to see all the words to come.
I love you and heres to a great 2012.
I love your word, hun! Are you saying you don’t have control of ME? ‘Cause you TOTALLY don’t.
Aren’t you glad that there are “breathing” medicines out there? They make your wife much more bearable. Hope you’re having a great day today! I love you.
wow, i love that your husband reads AND comments on your blog. very sweet.
LOVE your word lady! I am so excited to read everyone’s words! What a fun series!

I picked Bedrock for mine.
Thanks for sharing yours.
You explained yours much better than I did!
Looking forward the series! Love your word!
I think that’s a great word. I did the one-word thing lay year too with the word DO. This year it’s RECLAIM. I wrote about it here.

I’m excited to see what it brings this year.
I love your word and I love Mr. Ellie G’s comment! My word for 2012 is “FOCUS”
Focus is a GREAT one! I really like that one. Kinda similar to mine…but different in a way. Love it!
You are brave and beautiful. Love the idea.
This is such a good idea! I think I will have to try this!
Thanks so much!
LOVE that word and love that quote! I too need to focus on the great things more so than the hundred good things we’re doing around these parts…
That quote has made me feel guilty for years. I’m gonna try to embrace it and see if we can become friends.
Just discovered your blog and so enjoying it! I unveiled my Word of the Year on my blog today. This is my fourth year doing it and I love it. My word or words for the year are BE GRATEFUL. I added the BE because I wanted it to show action – not just an attitude. I want to show my gratitude through my actions. I’d love for you to check out the post if you’d like.

Oh my gosh….that 365 journal is TO DIE FOR! Love that idea!
love your word Lara!
looking forward to the series!
What a great word. Can’t wait to hear all of the rest. Keep up the wonderful blog.
I love the word “refine”! Too bad there’s not a song with that name!:)
Well….we can just make one up. I have a microphone you know.
I also started the one word for the year last year. I love the thought of Breath for a word. That one is amazing. I also love the Refine that you picked this year. Also, I think I am going to post that quote somewhere! It is one of my favorites and you conveniently reminded me of it again. Blessings to you and your family this year as you seek to refine yourself!
I do the one word thing too. I love the idea of working on several areas of my life with a common goal in mind. My word for this year is HEART. I am looking forward to everyone’s word. How fun to have so many ideas for words in the future.
just wondering if you will be doing 2012 calendars? I sure do love them
Excellent word choice – - so well thought out & unique.
I’m doing one word, too – - “live”. I want to take advantage of all of the moments in my life to truly live, look for ways to create a home more comfortable to live in, and let go of all the extras that take time away from living.
I’m looking forward to all of your guests as they reveal their words. Wonderful guest series!
I Love this idea! It’s such a great way to simplify your life and your resolutions. I had to copy this idea and share with my readers. My word for this year is BELEIVE. I need to learn to beleive in myself and my talents. It’s the first step to completing all my goals for the year.
Thank you so much for sharing your word. I love your blog and am with you on your journey!
I’m so in love with this idea! I chose “reduce” for its MANY uses, not for losing weight. Reduce spending money, reduce fears, reduce waste–tons of things!
My brother chose ASK and I love that–and I’m proud of him for choosing it.
I have no idea how to make one, but you should make a badge for this idea!!
I picked HONEST for mine, I love being more honest and listening to myself better. I have loads of things I need to do, don’t want to do, should do, and could do. Those are all so different, but the one thing that rings for all of them is to be true to myself, what I want to accomplish and not let fear hold me back!
I just posted my one word today – http://mostlyfoodandcrafts.blogspot.com/2012/01/one-word.html
I know I picked a word January first but have already forgotten it!
Maybe I need the breathing from last year.
Will be sharing a link to this post next Monday. And this time I wrote it down!
