Hi LCMF readers! Did I mention I kinda dig each and every one of you? Well I do. And I SUPER appreciate your support through the last few months as I journey through some kinda tough issues.
Throughout any life journey….one of the things I “know for sure”…..a la Oprah Winfrey.
(wait….I miss you O. Moment of silence)
Anyway, one of the things I KNOW FOR SURE is that life is just no fun if you’re not able to laugh.
I learned that at a pretty young age.
My Mom would always say that the night of my Dad’s funeral was one of the times in her life when she laughed the very hardest.
I know! Right?
Well she has 7 siblings and they were all together having fun memories and laughing at dorky people, and dorky situations.
Seriously. There is no better feeling.
‘Member that part in Mary Poppins when they sing “I Love to Laugh” and everyone floats up to the ceiling? I adore that scene. I’m sorry, but Uncle Albert’s jokes are freakin’ hysterical. I particularly enjoy the one about the guy who works in a watch factory.
Laughing is the thing that keeps me sane, when I feel insane.
Like last night, when my sister was here, and we got to that moment when we were laughing…..
but no sound came out…..
Oh my gosh, that’s the best feeling.
Or when my friends come over, and one of them starts to tell a story, but can’t get through it…because we’re all laughing so hard. We can’t even get to the punch line.
My grandpa used to get that way.
Toward the end of his life, we’d heard ‘em all.
But to watch him not be able to finish the story and have tears dripping down his face. Just thinking about it makes me BEYOND happy.
An inside joke.
An old memory.
A fall.
A hilarious story.
An awkward moment.
The time your sister draws out “Richard Nixon” for a game of charades. Then acts out the Kennedy assassination. And is mad no one guessed it. (best time ever!)
Plus…let’s be honest.
When someone “flatuates”… I dare you not to laugh.
I know. You’re a grown-up. But it’s still funny.
If it’s not. You need to chill a titch.
As we’re dealing with a time that comes with lots of sad emotions at our house, I have fallen in LOVE with this quote…

“The only way to get through life,
is to laugh your way through it.
You either have to laugh or cry.
I prefer to laugh.
Crying gives me a headache.”
—Marjorie Pay Hinckley
I decided that having this quote in my home before my surgery was SUPER important to me. I’ve been on a mission. I even made my husband drive to Costco late last night to pick it up. (I know, he’s a saint)
Then my sister helped me take down all the Easter decor. (yes I said “Easter”. I admit it.)
And we put up super pretty, super clean, super inspiring decor that I can “recover” in. Lots of glass, and white, and light grey. With a tiny pop of light pink.
I just want to be reminded every single day that laughing is the way to go. Even though life hands you things that make you want to cry. Laughing is always a better option.

In conclusion, laughter IS the best medicine. (that is, unless you have some percocet handy)
And farts are funny.
So, that is the end of that discussion.

Love this quote, thanks for sharing. What a great attitude to have in the midst of all of what you are dealing with! Good luck tomorrow lady, I’ll be thinking about you!
Thanks Summer! Hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be able to make a Material Girls date.
There’s hardly a day goes by that we don’t have a laugh-fest at the office with Barb and Nan. When Barb gets laughing, she slides down in her chair and we are all crying from laughter. It’s hard to stop and get back to work. Takes about half an hour. Sometimes we even shut the door and pretend we are in a meeting. Pretty funny. Laughter is the best medicine, no pun intended.
BTW, loved this post.
All I have to say to you is…..Muskrat Love.
i know what you mean about laughing instead of crying. we did just that while my Mom was in the hospital before she passed. five of my siblings and myself were there. we talked about all the stupid stuff we had done while we were little and grown, inside jokes and all the things we could remember. it was just easier to talk about that and have a light moment instead of talking about what we knew was inevitable. so amongst the hospital staff, the doctors, the machines, the medicine, the awful diagnosis, we decided to let Mom know how we felt , and talk about all the stupid, silly, crazy, amazing, and laughable stuff we knew…
GOOD Luck with your surgery and recovery…
I ADORE this story Nova. Like sooooooo much. This sounds so much like what my family does in similar situations. Laughter really is a gift. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for commenting. That was the only way we knew to deal with the situation at the time. We didn’t want Mom to be so sad, and it was quite devastating to us for her to be ill. She was ALWAYS the strongest person, the most caring person, and the nicest person that i knew. We would have done anything for her. Hope things are going well for you today and that you have a speedy recovery. Take care.
Love this! You are so right….some of my fondest memories are of my mom and her brothers laughing until they were crying.
Wishing you the speediest of recoveries.
Me too. My Mom and her siblings can get the giggles so easily. I love it!
PS…..
Every time you leave a comment on my blog Bridget….I kind of pinch myself. Just sayin’.
Laughter is the best medicine. Love you! Love this quote and printable. So glad I am able to call you a friend and have been able to share some hilarious laughing moments with you! More to come
Hat. Cold Spoon. Forehead Bead. Oh man I have laughed so hard with you. I love you Amers. Like, big time.
I love this quote and you are awesome. I will be thinking of you and your super fast recovery. I can’t wait to laugh with you again in person.
Me ‘neither, Leanne. When I can sit and giggle properly.
I love this quote and will be printing this for sure! Thanks Lara! I’ll be thinking about you a ton this week. More than I usually do. {And that just sounded creepy.} Sorry.
It totally did….stalker.
Thanks for thinking about me Steph. You are the bomb diggity!
It’s really the perfect quote. I’m so happy you are surrounding yourself with beautiful things- because it will help. I hope there’s a small mirror handy too- because you are one of the most beautiful people I know, and that should be part of your decor. You will be in so many prayers and happy thoughts tomorrow. Know you are loved and that you are not alone. You are tough mama- and we will help you get through this.
xoxo
Man, Amy….way to make me ugly cry. Just kidding. I mean, not kidding, but I cry a lot. It’s not your fault.
Those feelings are mutual my dear. Take care of you and that little one.
You always make me laugh! I love this quote, it is perfect. You are going to do great and have a speedy recovery. Nettie
Nothing, absolutely nothing is more life giving than a huge, hard, crying, belly-aching LAUGH!
Thank you for this quote. I have copied it to page size and am taking it to my sis tomorrow when I travel to her house for the night. We lost our dad 9 months ago, and , since sis is closer, she is dealing with our increasingly difficult mother. I will send prayers your way, and know things will be OK.
Adore, adore, ADORE! (you and the printable with the fabulous quote)
LOVE the printable – ty for sharing it! One of my mottos has always been “if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry” and I’d much rather laugh than cry. In fact, I can remember cracking jokes after my Grandmother’s funeral because the police stopped traffic (in her very small town) during the processional to the grave site and she would have hated that big of a fuss being made over her. Great attitude to have! I hope you can keep laughing and find the funny in every day as you face your upcoming surgery and the other not fun stuff you are dealing with at the moment!
Great quote. I’m always saying I’ve gotta laugh or I’ll cry.
Hang in there
Truly, it is laughter that keeps us sane! You have a great spirit.
I love that quote, and it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite quotes:
“Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.” – Kurt Vonnegut
No headache and no clean up! It’s hard to go wrong with laughter!
I love that quote from MPH. Its awesome. I love laughing too, and in my about me on my blog I tell you that laughing is my all time favorite. If you can get tears and no sound than its the best laugh every. I loved this post, thanks for sharing this fab. quote with us. P.S. AREN’T SISTERS AMAZING? sounds like you h ave a great one. Hope you are on the mend, and doing well. winks, jen
