Daybreak DIY Blogger House Update

Hi LCMF readers. I am missing you all SOOOOOO much. I feel like a piece of me has died. But I am overwhelmed with emotion when I read your encouraging comments and thoughts. Thank you so much for being so supportive as my family and I face an uphill battle. Your understanding and kindness have been so awesome for all of us!

I know I’ve teased this upcoming project on the LCMF Facebook page for the last few weeks. I am so excited to be a part of the upcoming DIY Blogger house at Daybreak for the 2012 SLC area Parade of Homes.

I even had the opportunity to talk about the DIY Blogger House on a local TV Show (Studio 5) back in May.

It is such a fun concept.  To showcase an amazing home (built by Bangerter Homes) and incorporate fun DIY ideas from some amazing local bloggers.  Not to mention the fact that these bloggers happen to be some of my bestest buddies.  I’m talking, they come to my house and bring me lunch when I can’t get out of bed.  They are amazing creative women.  And caring people to boot!

Here’s a little teaser video that Daybreak put together to show everyone what we were planning on doing to make this project a success.  (and yes…..that still pic of me is pretty much the grossest pic of all times!)

As I mentioned in my Studio 5 interview I have been paired up with my bestest buddy Char Coester from Crap I’ve Made to tackle 3 kids bedrooms in this home.

We are finishing up the last details this week on:

  • A gender neutral nursery
  • A young boy’s room
  • A teenage girl room

The teenage girl room has a really fun theme based on a wish made through the fabulous Utah Chapter of the Make-a-Wish foundation.  It has been my honor and pleasure to work closely with our inspire-ee (is that a word?), our designer, Brian Clark,  and Char on this room.

I’ve finally been given “clearance” by the big bosses to give you some sneak-peeks.  Okay….this one’s not that sneaky if you live in Daybreak, you can totally just drive by.  Which is exactly why I can show you.

How pretty is this quaint little house?  Isn’t is so homey feeling?  I’m flipping over backwards for that yellow door.  Yummy!

The yard landscaping was designed by Cynthia Bee from Utah Conservation Garden Park.  It’s so amazing! Particularly since it’s designed to use 35% less water than a normal home landscape.  That’s super important when living in a desert.  (did you know Utah is a desert?  Yep.  One of the driest in the nation.  Currently only Nevada is drier.  But we’ve been #1 before.)

It has NOT been green lighted for me to show you ANY of our projects yet.  But a little teasing never hurt anyone….right?

It’s like those things on Sesame Street where they slowly zoom out so you can guess what the picture is.  Yay!  A game!  I love games!

Char and I just finished up the last of my projects yesterday.  And I think she’ll be all done today.  And between our two blogs you will get in depth details and tutorials for ALL of them.  And trust me…….they are AWESOME!

I have to give (and will continue to give) the hugest props in all the land to my partner in crime….Miss Char of Crap I’ve Made.  She and I worked together on a BUNCH of stuff for the SNAP! Conference in the spring.  And even though we’ve been friends for a while now….we learned that we make a GREAT team.  Even under pressure, we still manage to laugh a lot and get a TON done.

She went into this project knowing that my health would most likely preclude me from being much actual help.
My mind’s okay.
Unless I’ve taken a lot of meds…..(remind me to tell you about the 2 hour meeting she and I had….and then I forgot most of it!  Oops!)

Anyway, she has spent countless hours helping me get all this stuff done, and on time.  Her kids even came over to help.  She’s just good people and I want to make sure she gets the credit she deserves!

I’m also very grateful to the Daybreak team who, even with ample warning that I would not be at 100%….said they wanted me to do the project anyway.  It has definitely kept me feeling relevant, and gave me the ability to be creative while I laid in bed.

So…..in the next few weeks, stay tuned for some REAL LCMF upcoming tutorials.  Like, the kind that you used to love.  Remember?  I’ve almost forgotten!  I can’t wait to share.

And if you are in the SLC area make plans to visit the SLC Parade of Homes.  It will give you a fun family outing, and if you are a do-it-yourself kind of gal (like me) it can spark some amazing ideas for you!  Get your creativity ready….
