Think Pink in the Sink

As most of you know October is the official “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. Being a girl….I kinda admit to enjoying the popping up of everything pink. Delightful.

But of course I know there is a much more important reason for the girly explosion.   And I LOVE companies that are willing to support and bring awareness for the cause.  Check out the special October offerings from Method’s “Pink Your Sink” October Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

I LOVE both of the scents. I tried to pick a favie….but both “Mimosa Sun” and “Botanical Garden” are nummy-nummers.

I have to admit that for a good chunk of my life breast cancer hadn’t really affected me. But I distinctly remember a phone call I received about 3 months after I had my first son telling me that a good friend had been diagnosed. I think that message is ALWAYS shocking, however this was particularly shocking because my friend was twenty-six old. Yep. 26.

She went in to immediate treatment. Mostly because of her age, her case had developed quite a bit. I don’t know all the “technical” terms. But I know a 26 year old Mom of 2 little boys was NOT planning on breast cancer.

I am so proud that after an amazing battle, my friend was able to conquer her case and is celebrating (THIS MONTH) her 10 year remission birthday. YAY!

The most amazing thing for me was that after she went into remission, she decided that there wasn’t enough support for young women who are diagnosed with cancer. She told me that they require a lot of different information and treatment options. So in order to help start supporting these young women she started “Young Survivor Sisters“. A non-profit group that helps support and get information to women in Utah diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40.

I’m SOOOOOOO amazed by people who take their battles and turn them into something that helps others. In fact, a few years ago I had the privilege of singing at their annual dinner for young women who were battling, or had survived a young battle with breast cancer.  I have RARELY been so inspired.
I’m not kidding you.
These women were my age, and some were bald.  Some had lovely wigs.  Some had lovely scarves.  And all were smiling, hugging, and giving support to one another.  It kind of reminded me of my blog post about supporting friends like a great bra!
I came home inspired, feeling blessed, and loving women!!

Method totally gets the need to support great breast cancer awareness groups as well. Check into their “Pink Your Sink” charity challenge. They will be announcing a winner on the 29th.

(can we just put out a MY BAD here? I was supposed to tell you about this awesome product in time for you to vote for your favorite charities. And I accidentally put my head through a wall instead. I’m SO SORRY! I promise to avoid walls on all important issues in the future.)

But you can still support and bring awareness by pinking up your awesome sink….and making your hands smell nummy. Because no one wants stinky hands. Or stinky boobs for that matter. See? It all makes sense.

Still, you can find Method ALL OVER the social media web! Check them out here:

  • Method Facebook Page
  • Method Twitter
  • Method on Pinterest
  • Method YouTube Channel

*Disclaimer–I am receiving some compensation from Method to share their company with my readers. I was also given some product to review. But I also have purchased many of the products myself. Some product photography is my own. All opinions expressed, and experiences are my own. I was in no way compelled to make a particular assessment about Method or their products.

The Truth-As I See It

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer
July 11, 2012 --2:59 AM

So often, people…lovely people…make comments to me about how I’m happy even though I’ve been pretty much in bed since March.  (PS….if you are running behind on that sitch you can check out my TMI post or also this quick video that explain it a little bit.)  Or how I look pretty made up every day. Or how I’m keeping my home, blog, marriage, and life running so smoothly.

And usually I laugh, like a snort kind.

Because that couldn’t be farther from the truth of my life.

You have to know, cute little blog readers

  • Most people don’t want you to see their dirty house.
  • Nobody likes complainers, so hopefully most people aren’t whining about their life all the time. (although….I CAN be that way….sorry if you’ve been on the other end of one of those days)
  • Everyone has smelly breath sometimes
  • Everyone burns their food on accident
  • Everyone yells at their friends, spouse, or kids…and then regrets it.
  • Everyone just decides it’s gonna have to be a Little Ceasars night
  • Look, everyone’s farts stink.

It’s just the truth.

So, as a response to all those well meaning people who think I live in heels and lipstick as I lay here in my perfectly clean home, with my Pinterest recipe crock-pot meal waiting for my family’s dinner……..I’ve made you a little video.

(if you are reading in an RSS reader, you will most likely need to click over to my blog to see it…and please do…it’s got some funny parts)

So now you know. I’d like credit for the fact that I, indeed, work miracles with that hair I have.  It’s taken years to master.

My double chins, and giant bosoms often make it difficult for me to eat while lying down.  And frequently, I lose food that I can’t retrieve.  Noodles are particularly advanced.

My toes have remained unpainted for a week now.  And (first world problem) that is the LONGEST I can remember that ever happening.  It’s hideous.

Am I pissy some days?  Heck yes!  Do I say swear words? More often than I should.

But honest and TRUE:

I WILL find something to learn from this.

I will figure out why I needed to have this particular trial.  I will count my blessings, even the tiny ones….like a perfectly ripe watermelon.  Or a tomato that actually grew under my care. (I KNOW!!)  There are things to be grateful for every day.  And there are people who would benefit from the truth of who YOU are and what YOU have to offer.

Promise.

Stayin’ in Style with Tori

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer

Whazzup? It’s Lara here…..back from the dead. Wait. I hope I’m not dead. But I am pre-scheduling this to post while I’m out for my surgery. Haven’t you been LOVING the “Do Unto Others” series? I know I have loved reading each and every one of the posts as they come in. I’m just so inspired!

Speaking of inspired….

Last January I got the chance to attend the Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show in Aneheim. (also known as the CHA Show)

While I was there I got a “sneak-peek” of A TON of awesome products that would debut throughout 2012.

One of the coolest was a new jewelry collection made by Darice and Tori Spelling…..called Styled by Tori Spelling.

Let’s be honest:  I was admittedly interested first because…..FREAK….it was Donna Martin for crying out loud!!!!
(and anyone my age who claims that they weren’t star struck just a tiny…..is a liar.)

So yes, originally I went to the unveiling just because I was hoping that Tori Spelling would want to be my BFF.
She’s a mommy.  I’m a mommy.
I realized Dylan wasn’t the best route.  As did she.  Right?
And I think the whole Donna+Kelly duo is too much platinum blonde for either to properly shine.
Plus, did you know she’s now said publicly that she loves to craft?

I cannot believe that she has admitted to loving crafting!
I think I was also hoping to talk her into my theory that the word “craft” is icky.  And us cool girls are just uber “creative”.

Oddly, I just walked up and they took our picture and then the guy wanted to make her “move on”.
Whatever.
I feel like a connection was made.

After the security guy kinda gave me the “evil eye” I decided to move over and REALLY take a look at the new Styled by Tori Spelling line.

You guys!  I died!

It was SO COOL!  Sooooooo stuff I would wear.  So cute.  So….like….stuff I had in my closet.

I have to admit being surprised.  Anyway.  The show isn’t a place where you can buy stuff.  I just made a mental note to look for it when it came out.

Fast forward to May……when I got a great e-mail: “Do you think you’d want to try out this new line of products?”
In my head….”Do you think Donna and David are together forever in the 90210 in the my head? Ummmm….Yes!!”
My real self said….”You bet! Sounds like a fun product.”

Der.  I was really excited.

Turns out the timing was in the middle of this whole surgery thing.  But gratefully, I was able to get everything beforehand….and schedule this post for you guys to see!

Yay!

I love technology.  (and ’90′s shows…and Diet Coke…and Toenail polish….I love a lot of awesome things)

So here’s where I get the MAJOR pleasure of introducing you to your NEW obsession.  (yes, my new obsession AND yours.  You’re gonna love it!)

The Styled by Tori Spelling line kinda works on a cool premise.

BUY A FEW STAPLE ITEMS, AND THEN BUY ALL THE DIFFERENT ACCESSORIES.

YOU CAN HAVE TONS OF OPTIONS WITH JUST A FEW CORE PIECES.

NO TOOLS OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Below, you’ll see a necklace I put together using the Glitz line.

  • You start with a necklace top
  • Then add a necklace bottom
  • And if you’re feeling REALLY sassy (which I always am) you can add a pendant or hanging item.

To put everything together you’ll need a package of “connectors”.  The packages come with the regular “C” clasps that you are used to for jewelry.  But also these GENIUS “S clasps”.

Repeat after me…THE S CLASP IS MY BFF!

After using the line for a bit, I’ve decided that I LOVE using the S clasps for necklaces.  Totally easier than the “C” ones.  But I do use the “C” ones to put on accessories. (like that yummy black pendant above)

  • Can you kinda “catch” the idea that once you’ve bought a silver “necklace top” you could buy TONS of other bottoms and NEVER need another top?  Once you have a set of silver and gold….you’re set.  (although there are some YUMMY kind of bronze-ee options that you can get too…..don’t get me started!)

The line ALSO branches out into bracelets as well, using the same idea. (these are from the Glam line)  Get the base (a 3 toggle connector and a chain piece) and then just mix and match!  No tools or jewelry making experience required!  Not kidding!

Gals!  Are you peeing your pants yet?  Go get your Depends on…..I’ll wait!…..

It doesn’t even stop there.  The dangling accessories also can be attached to earring bases!  (you just yelled SHUT UP! didn’t you?)  No.  I won’t shut up.  It’s true!  And those Styled by Tori Spelling beauties could be on my ears today, and one on my necklace tomorrow.  Just whatever!  (for reals…..aren’t you thanking me for the Depends now?)

The other amazing thing is, even though there are 4 lines of jewelry.  All 4 could be interchanged.  For sure!  The possibilities start to become too much to imagine.  (ps….not a math major…..)

I kind of died when I saw that this dangling accessory had a “brooch pin” on it.  LOVE!  Check out how marvie it looks glamming up my cutie-pie hat!

I found that not every piece has that pin option though.  But guess what…

You can buy those pins for SERIOUSLY cheap at a craft store.  Pick some up.  And a bottle of glue.  (I used E6000)

And now every single dangler can be a pendant….WHAT??????????

Girls, I kid you not….

This shoe was headed to the trash.

But last week I got an e-mail from a shoe store I like  (let’s just say….it has 3 letters for it’s name…)  And while I LOVE their shoes, I don’t always dig the prices.

They had the most DARLING summer shoes with BIG brooches on them.   Probably $50-$100 per pair.   I loved them.

Now I have a pair.  One I already owned.
Add a little Styled by Tori Spelling
And my pair is JUST as cute.  (at way more than 1/3 the price!)

You want the deets….don’t you?

“Where?  Where can we get this stuff, Lara?  And is it gonna break our kinda “thrifty gal crafter” banks?”

Don’t worry.  I got your backs.  I wouldn’t have gotten on board at redic prices.  Because I am cheap.  And I’m not afraid to admit it.

The pieces are VERY affordable.
Plus, once you have the base “builders” you’ll just be adding pieces that make more combos possible.
I’m talking under $10 (approx.) for most building items.
And similar pricing for the accessories.  REALLY reasonable.

Styled by Tori Spelling is currently available at Michael’s and JoAnn’s.  However pieces and availability can vary by store.  I got a look at the Glitz and Glam lines.  (Glitz AND Glam?  Could that POSSIBLY be more perfect for me?)  But there are 2 other lines that I wanna get my hands on.  Boho (which has some AWESOME color) and Noir (which is all these yummy black and elegant looks).

I am just so seriously STOKED when crafts, (eww…hate that word) and awesomeness collide.  It’s my FAVORITE thing.  Creativity is cool dudes.  And this line is like creativity for dummies.  (not that you’re dumb.  But lots of you tell me you’re not “crafty”.  And that’s just silly.)

You need NO TOOLS.

No extra stuff.
But if you want to get creative (like adding brooch pins) the possibilities are ENDLESS!

Run over and MAKE SURE you “like”  the Styled by Tori Spelling Facebook Page  so you’ll stay up to date on all the new stuff!  (while you’re there…..tell Tori that I adore her.  And I think we could be crafting BFF)

Guaranteed I’m laying in bed healing with a bracelet on.  ‘Cause that’s how I roll.  Jammie pants and pearls.  It’s all the rage!

Peace!

*I am being compensated and received pieces of the Styled by Tori Spelling line from Darice through Blueprint Social.  However all ideas, opinions, explanations, and jewelry pairings are unique and my own.*
