A Printable Father’s Day

Father’s Day is around the corner….and I’m so proud to announce that I got on the ball EARLY!
When does THAT ever happen?

Only one problem….
I don’t have a father.

OOPSIE!

Don’t worry. This isn’t news to me.
My Dad passed away when I was 7 years old.

This isn’t my favorite holiday.

In fact, not having a Father around for most of my life has made me scared of Fathers {boys} in general.
Good thing I found one to marry. (He still scares me sometimes.)

I don’t feel like I relate to men AT ALL!

However, just because I don’t have a Father. Doesn’t mean you don’t. And there IS a Father living at my house. And MAN did he help me make some CUTE KIDS!

Besides, I didn’t want to give all the “printable fun” to the Mom’s out there!

I made up a really fun printable that can be used for ANY man in your life.
It’s a sports quote…..so it should fit the bill.
I hope.
(Remember…I don’t get boys)

I kind of fell in love with this saying. Partly because I think “The Babe” is pretty awesome. And partly because it’s a good reminder that we all just have to keep pushing through life. No matter who we are.

At first I found it a little disheartening. Because, gosh, if I hit a homerun……shouldn’t I be done?
But we all know that’s not how life works.

It reminds me to keep pushing. Every day is new.
Every day is waiting for another Homerun.

And that frame? Well it’s an UBER cheap middle of the isle kind. $2. It was a natural wood color. I gave it a quick spray of black and then sanded a little off to match the rustic quote.

Do you want one for the Father figure in your life.
(I mean a real Father Figure…..not the George Michael variety)

This printable is sized at 5×7. It won’t look optimal if printed at a larger size. To use, click on image, enlarge to full size, right click & save to your desktop, and print as you’d like! Super simple!
The same usual rules apply for LCMF prinatbles:

(Please….personal use only on the printables. Do not re-post without linking back to this blog. Do not alter, remove watermark, or claim as your own. Feel free to e-mail me or announced.greetings(at) gmail(dot) com with any use questions. Thanks!)

And don’t worry about me.
Father’s Day isn’t my favorite. That’s okay.
Just remember that not everyone has a Father. (or a Mother, for that matter)

And I’ll try to look at the bright side…..that’s one less present for me to worry about! Bonus!

Boycott

Father’s Day is a week from tomorrow. ARE YOU READY? I am now. Thankfully, my husband decided to spend his Father’s Day gift budget on a concert ticket. So I’m kind of off the hook this year.

{I got him a home-made ice cream maker as well…shhh…..he doesn’t know!}

Actually, may I back track? I HATE Father’s Day. I love the Father of my own kids. But it seems like a big jip not to have my own Father around. I’ve had a lot of really sad Father’s Days in my time. And so I kind of boycott this holiday.

Then I got married and thought that I’d reconsider once I had a Father-in-Law. Hmmm….not that he’s not a lovely man. He is. But it’s just not the same. And it doesn’t help that this man is the hardest man in the world to buy gifts for. I expressly told my husband that he is in charge of his own Father.

And I, again, protest this holiday.

But a magical thing happened this year. I came across the most brilliant idea ever, from Kami @ Sweet Charli. Seriously. This is frickin’ genius! She made coasters. Doesn’t blow your mind yet? Wait, I forgot, you gotta SEE THEM.

Right?

RIGHT?

They’re brilliant. Cute. Uber cheap. And so customizable, I could barely contain myself. I loved them. And started thinking of excuses to make me some.

But then, it hit me, like a ton of bricks.

Good ‘ol Father-in-Law loves very few things in his life. But I know what he does love….

His kids.
His grandkids.
Porsche.
The Beatles.
And coasters.

He’s borderline obsessed. We all get in trouble for leaving drinks around their house. I hope I’ve stumbled across the perfect storm!!

  • Beatles & coasters….all in one gift.
  • We actually get him something, which shows we care.
  • If he hates it (which is a distinct possibility) I’m out next to NOTHING.

And so, I have set aside my Father’s Day boycott. And here’s the outcome:

Start out with the tiny, cheap, terra cotta pot dishes. You know, the ones? I got mine at WalMart. $0.75 a piece.

Here is my official apology to primer:

Dear Primer: I have never used you before. I didn’t see the need. Other bloggers told me I should use you. And I finally heeded their call. I have seen the error of my ways, and I hope you’ll accept my apology. I actually love you. Can we be friends?
(or more than friends?)
Forever yours, Ellie g

There are 2 coats of glossy black paint, some Beatles pics just printed on my home printer, Mod Podge (2 coats), and a laquer spray to shine it all up!  *2013 edit….look into the outdoor or waterproof Mod Podge.  They will hold up better from sweating drinks and in case there’s a spill. (learned the hard way)*

Look at the finished product!! If I was telling these coasters how I feel about them…it would go

“She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah”

And if he ends up not liking them. My husband, who also loves The Beatles, has put dibbs on them. (did I mention that concert ticket he got is to see Sir Paul McCartney? Well it is. And he’s a happy camper.)

Thanks SO MUCH Kami for giving me permission to blatantly rip off your brilliance. And then blog about it. You’re blog is delightful. And I’m so glad I found it!

I hope you all have a great Father’s Day.
I’m officially boycotting again….as of NOW!

I’m So Glad When Daddy Comes Home

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer

Well, Father’s Day is right around the corner….and it’s time to start thinking about things to get for Dad. For some reason, around here, that usually means something to “make” for Dad. I guess I usually go to making things over buying things. Maybe it’s because he can’t take back my made gifts. And I know I won’t get anything else right.

I thought I’d share a few Father’s Day ideas over the next week.

This one is a gift I gave to my husband several years ago. But he still loves it. Before I show it to you….you have to put your judgment hat on the floor.

Do it.

I’ll wait.

………………………………………………………………….

Why? (you might be wondering)

Well, have you ever gotten out your old Scrapbooks and thought, “oh my goodness, I want to rip apart every one of those pages and re-do them?”
Of course you have.
After a year, they’re ugly.
Well, when I got this out to photograph it…those words crossed my mind IMMEDIATELY. Some of it is still cute. Some….not so much.

But the IDEA is still really good. And the concept still works. And if some of the embellishments aren’t awesome….well…that’s why your hat is on the floor. So it shouldn’t be a problem.

RIGHT?

Start with a photo book. I tried to find the “manliest” one I could find. Also, I like the post bound ones so that they can accomodate a little thickness.

Then start thinking about all the things your husband likes, and the things your kids like to do with your husband. And how you could represent those things in a photo.

For my husband we did: cars, tennis, The Beatles, sunglasses, fast food, naps, basketball, watching TV, and a few others…

Then take photos of your kids doing these various things.

I made up poems to go on each page. That wouldn’t be necessary. But I kind of love making up dumb poems. It’s sort of my calling in life.

Here’s a couple of the pages…

With small kids. (my son was about 3 at the time) it was fun to just give him props and let him play with them.

This one is one of my favorites. We had him dress up in Daddy’s work clothes. He loved it. I loved it. Daddy LOVED it!!

This is actually one I hadn’t planned on. But in taking all the photos I ended up with so many funny face ones….I had to use them!!

This is the last page in the book. And was actually the inspiration for making the book in the first place. I was watching my son play in my husband’s shoes one day, and thought how darling…and poetic it was.

The poem reads:
“And when I am a grown-up
and have the chance to choose…
I’ll choose to be a Daddy,
And try to fill his shoes.”

Even if some of the scrapbooking is a little dated….there are some elements that still WORK!

  • #1-using black and white photos. It just makes everything look very clean and contemporary.
  • #2-using only 2 colors in the book. I chose a mustard yellow and black. I thought they were fairly masculine. Plus it saves tons of time. And, in my experience, Daddys don’t really want frilly, embellished stuff. My husband kept this on his desk at work, and I don’t think flowers and stuff would have gotten that honored place.
  • #3-using the kids. Daddys love their kids. That’s gonna be a given. No matter what.

I hope that gives you an idea for something you can do for Dad this year. I’d love to see what you can do with it!
