An Apple a Day: Gift for Teacher

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer

So. I have to be honest. I’m not a fan of “teacher gifts”. I know! Don’t shoot me! Let me explain. See, I love giving gifts to people I love. But I hate the guilt I feel when someone gives me something that just ends up cluttering my basement….long enough that I no longer feel bad….and then I chuck it.
So sad.

I worry that thousands of teachers all over the country are getting wooden apples, and dollar store frames, that they just can’t use.

So with “teacher appreciation” weeks popping up all over…..why not give your kids’ teacher something she can actually use?

Don’t be afraid to ask your kid’s teacher what they actually COULD use. Lots of teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies. And what’s better than helping out with things that will benefit everyone?

Now, granted, paper plates, Anti-Bacterial wipes, and baggies are never gonna be as cute as that wooden apple that you spent all day making. But I have a secret….

It’s all in the presentation.

I always have a roll of cellophane wrapping on hand. I swear it could make a moldy banana look like a million bucks! So find a fun (and useful) type of basket for your items.

Displaying the items in a super cute way is important too.  Put taller, and bigger things in back.  Smaller things in front.  And you can even use tape to keep things in a cute order!

Then attach a length of cute ribbon.  I didn’t even tie a bow.  So anyone can do this!  And you’ll need a cute tag….

Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered.

Just click on the arrow with the line under it to download your own copy. I backed my tag with some bright cardstock. It took about 5 minutes to complete. Now, that’s my kind of gift!

So don’t worry if you missed the chance to give a gift to your child’s teacher on the first day of school. Keep your eyes and ears open….and I bet you can find a gift that the Teacher will REALLY appreciate.

(and PS…if you’re really into wooden apples…I still like those…and I still like you!)

**This printable was offered on the blog Brown Paper Packages in the fall of 2011.  But is brand new to LCMF!  See?  I’m totally into reduce, re-use, recycle.  {tee hee}**

What’s up Doc? “Happy Spring”

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer

Happy Monday!
Today is another Dr. day for me. Which can become kinda difficult sometimes. Especially when the appointments are an hour or more, and the doctor’s office is about 40 minutes away. So when I have to go twice a week…..well…..I might be over it. Just a titch.

Gratefully, at least the Doctor is SUPER awesome. And funny. And manages to make me laugh, even when I’m in a ton of pain.

On our very first appointment, I happened to overhear him say that he loves white chocolate. And I had an “Ah-Ha” moment. If I’m gonna trust this man to fix me….and give me LOTS of TLC….I ought to feed him. Right?

Well then I saw someone post that M&M’s has a white chocolate variety for easter. SCORE!

So here’s my little tips for making a super cute and easy treat for someone who really needs it. (or someone who you are trying to suck-up to. What? That’s necessary sometimes.)

The fastest way to take a bag of candy from “here’s a bag of candy,” to…..freak this is cute!  Is to separate the colors.  Yep.  It just makes the whole thing pop.  And makes it look like your giving a gift rather than the excess of your grocery run.

I also ALWAYS have cellophane baggies on hand.  You will love being able to throw together something last-minute and not having to go to the store.

This is a GINORMOUS glue dot.  And I LOVE IT!  I got these from Therm-O-Web (makers of Zots…which are my favie!) when I was at the CHA conference in January.  And I seriously can not love them more.  What would you do with them?

Well I got some yummy gray twine and swirled and swirled and swirled and swirled.  (yep I swirled for a while)  Just make sure your going slow and making things look even.  The dot really is gonna hold that twine tight so there’s not a lot of room for error.

I’ve now made twine flowers by starting in the middle of the dot and by starting on the outer edge.  And the outer edge is much preferred.  (thanks for figuring that out Ellie G!  No problem peeps.)

I LLLLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEE how that twine dot looks holding this baggie together.  So awesome.  Especially for a guy.  Not frilly.  Just cool.

And hopefully it buys me some extra Doctor TLC.  Because I sure could use it.

I Love You Like Crazy-Printable Valentines

Authored By: ellie g Author/Writer
February 10, 2012 --8:54 AM

I was SO excited to get to share this fun Valentine printable over on Skip to my Lou this week. So if you didn’t catch it there…..here it is on the ‘ol LCMF.

And here’s to hopin’ you aren’t still without valentines at your house. Because we TOTALLY are! I ought to remedy that….right? Shoot.

My kids and I have pretty set bedtime routines. Like they brush teeth, say prayers, I get them a glass of water WITH ice. They pick their “music” or “stories”. And then I kiss them goodnight. I tell my son, “I love you” and he says, “I love you more.” Sometimes it goes on to “I love you mostest.”

One night when I was putting my daughter, who was about 2 at the time, to bed I said, “I love you like crazy.”
And she said, “I love you too my crazy.”
I guess she got the “like” part confused or something?
Who knows. But rather than being offended that she pretty much called me crazy…I was like, “that’s pretty much the awesomest and most accurate bedtime greeting of ALL TIME!”

Because, let’s be honest, I am a little CRAZY! And as long as I’m HER “crazy”….all is right with the world.

When I started thinking about a printable Valentine to offer this year, our little routine popped into my head.  I LOVE to tell my true Valentines that their love makes me CRAZY!  (okay, I’m kinda crazy anyway….but still….)

This printable comes with four different color schemes all on one sheet.  (and can I just mention that the colors are kinda CRAZY?  So appropriate!)

I paired my valentines with a darling little glassine bag full of treats.  And a topper of bakery twine.  It literally took me 5 minutes.  And there’s NOTHING crazy about that! Unless it’s crazy AWESOME!

Click on the arrow with a line under it…in the above window. Just press it, and the image file should download right to your computer! Easy Peezy!

You can then print the file anywhere you’d like. This file is sized at 8.5×11. It will not print optimally at a bigger size. (But you can print it at a smaller size if you’d like.)

As usual PLEASE follow the following rules for Less Cake {more frosting} printables:

  • LCMF prinatables are for PERSONAL USE only. You may not re-sell, re-distribute, or claim them as your own.
  • Please do not remove the watermark.
  • If posting on the internet, you MUST post a link back to this website.
  • Personalization, color changes, and other customizations are not available on freebie printables. They are offered “as-is”.

I’m excited to give out these little treats to people I’m “crazy” about!  Because I’m pretty aware that my brand of crazy, brings awesome treats.  Crazy and sugar often go hand in hand. Which explains why I have pretty constant sugar gas. (was that TMI? {tee hee})
